Environmental Projects
Environmental projects that we have completed include phytoremediation tree planting in polluted ground and shoreline stabilization with native willows. We are currently in the process of developing an inventory of numerous willow stock plants, both native and non-native, for environmental projects. Phytoremediation Phytoremediation is the use of plants to eliminate or contain hydrocarbons, metals, and other contaminants from the soil. This is a preferred method where the water table is high. Every tree is essentially a pump, taking up polluted water. Although establishing highly successful planting can be difficult in contaminated soil, we have developed procedures to help the trees flourish. Our interest in remediation is the horticultural component, working to achieve a high survival rate and solid growth. Evergreen Valley Nursery is in the process of learning about nutrient uptake as it applies to sewage lagoons, agricultural nutrients, and landfill sites. Our interest in this field coincides with ongoing ecological and environmental issues with lakes and waterways in Manitoba. Contact us for prices and availability. |
