Environmental Projects Environmentally damaged sites can be challenging. We have experience in reversing damage done by years of gas and diesel fuel spillage using trees, along with naturally enhancing natural processes in the soil. Environmental projects that we have completed include phytoremediation tree planting in polluted ground and shoreline stabilization with native willows. We have developed an inventory of numerous willow stock plants, both native and non-native, for environmental projects. We have completed environmental projects for corporate clients in the oil and gas, conservation, and insurance industries. Phytoremediation Phytoremediation is the use of plants to eliminate or contain hydrocarbons, metals, and other contaminants from the soil. This is a preferred method where the water table is high. Every tree is essentially a pump, taking up polluted water. Although establishing highly successful planting can be difficult in contaminated soil, we have developed procedures to help the trees flourish. Our interest in remediation is the horticultural component, working to achieve a high survival rate and solid growth. Evergreen Valley Nursery is in the process of learning about nutrient uptake as it applies to sewage lagoons, agricultural nutrients, and landfill sites. Our interest in this field coincides with ongoing ecological and environmental issues with lakes and waterways in Manitoba. Environmental Willows Shoreline planting can benefit from the availability of indigenous willow cuttings, serving dual purposes in mitigating erosion and facilitating nutrient absorption. Addressing concerns related to shoreline erosion and algae proliferation is crucial for the well-being of Manitoba's lakes and rivers. Shelter willows, characterized by rapid growth and multi-branching, play a role in wind reduction and snow entrapment. Evergreen Valley Nursery cultivates agroforestry willow varieties on-site, offering cuttings during the appropriate season. Unrooted willow cuttings, encompassing both native and non-native varieties, should be available. When handled properly, cuttings prove to be an efficient and cost-effective method for cultivating willows. Consulting Throughout our 45+ years of experience in the tree nursery and horticultural space, we have gained superior expertise in accessing the quality and value of trees and plants. Our owner, Fred Driedger, is a Manitoba certified arborist and is qualified to access damage environmental causes and accidents (such as fires, floods, etc.). He has worked with several insurance companies and customers, engineering firms, oil and gas companies, conservation districts and environmental organizations, utility companies, and Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure.
